"Perfect Wall Art for
the Tiniest Trailer!"

ORIGINAL ART Prints - SIGNED BY THE
ARTIST - matted, mounted and sleeved in a
polypropylene envelope for protection.

MY NEWEST PAINTINGS:

Vintage Texas Spring
| One day, as
I was driving through our town, I spotted this classic Ford truck in
the bank parking lot ... So I built this painting around Eric's 1966
Ford f100. I added a 1957 Scotsman travel trailer because I felt
they "matched." The setting looks like most of the small Texas
communities around where I live.
Thank you, Eric! |
8 X10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00
Boxed Note Cards $16.00

Vintage September
| Even though
this looks like a scene from the 1930's, this scene was inspired by
a recent trip we made where we opted to return home by some good,
well-paved back roads. We were enjoying the scenery all the way ...
until we realized there were NO roadside parks! So we stopped off at
a small country churchyard with an old-fashioned cemetery. It
was quaint and quiet. Will do that again if given the chance. |
8 X10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00
Boxed Note Cards $16.00

Vintage Patriot
| This is one
of the newer "vintage" travel trailers in my series. I chose this
1977 Holiday Rambler because it most closely resembles the 1986 HR
we have. Caddo Lake State Park in East Texas is also one of our
favorite camping and fishing spots. I envision this scene as a July
Fourth weekend getaway. Everything here is red, white or blue so a
Facebook friend suggested the name "Patriot!" |
8 X10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00
Boxed Note Cards $16.00

Roadside Park
| We made a
trip to Florida recently and were very bored with the Interstate
scenery - or lack of. So when we started back home we opted to find
a good secondary road through the southern states, only to find - to
our dismay - there were NO places to pull over while towing a
trailer! So I painted my ideal resting place, using a 1955 Boles
Aero travel trailer with a 1951 Ford pick up truck. The dog could belong
to
the travelers', just taking a little walk to stretch his legs. |
8 X10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00
Boxed Note Cards $16.00

Vintage Fishing Hole
| A vintage
1961 Metzendorf travel trailer, paired with a 1958 Chevy Apache sit
idly waiting for the fisherman to come on out and start the day. I
was originally inspired to call this "The Donut Hole" after my
husband's favorite fishing spot at Lake Tawakoni in East Texas. |
8 X10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

When Cowgirls Go Camping
| I
photographed this scenery on a camp-out in West Virginia, knowing
that somehow I would work it into a painting ... So here I have
recreated a scene with four Sisters on the Fly, a well-known vintage
trailer group (of which I am Sister # 820,) devoted to restoring
tiny canned hams, personalizing them and taking them out for Sister
Weekends.
Many thanks to Sisters Kristi #29, Marty
#268, Cristy #79 and Sue #538
And a special Thank You to Sister #1 - Maurrie
Sussman! |
8 X10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00
Boxed Note Cards $16.00

Mountain Mama
| This is a
tribute to my home state of West Virginia! I named it "MOUNTAIN
MAMA" after John Denver's famous song "Country Roads," which put
West Virginia on the map! I used a 60's-something vintage Winnebago
travel trailer, towed by a '54 Chevy truck and imagined myself heading out to the country for a
weekend camp-out ... but needing directions, I've stopped at a farm
house to find out where I'm headed. |
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Vintage Campfire"
| I have been
asked several times to do a painting with a HiLo travel trailer.
This one is around a 1960 vintage, combining elements from a couple
of models. The first ones used a huge turn wheel to crank up the
top, but this one, obviously, uses electricity. I just put it in a
scene that looks like campsites at national parks everywhere. |
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

Vintage Sunset
| This is a
1958-ish Trotwood travel trailer being towed by a 1953 Hudson Hornet.
I've been itching to do a sunset for some time, so paired this duo
in a desert landscape with a notion that the folks are inside the
trailer cooking up a camp supper while enjoying the spectacular
sunset. They may or may not camp overnight here ... |
8 X 10 Print - $16.00
11 X 14 Print - $24.00

Taking in The Sights
| Sad to say
we didn't know about the Watchtower at Grand Canyon when we paid our
visit there one summer. Still, I can imagine what it would be like
having a little homebuilt teardrop trailer and stopping by for a
quick bite - then to explore the trail before moving on. Towing with
a 1960 Chevy Impala just adds to the pleasure!
Many thanks to Barry H. for the use of his photographs, |
8 X 10 Print - $16.00
11 X 14 Print - $24.00

Vintage Playhouse
| This
painting was inspired by a friend's post on Good Ol RV's. Another
friend reported that she had purchased a vintage Scotty for her
grand-daughters' playhouse. This one is a 1957 "Lil Abe" by a
manufacturer called Lincoln out of Wakarusa, IN.
Many thanks to Jholinne B. for the use of her photograph. |
8 X 10 Print - $16.00
11 X 14 Print - $24.00
Boxed Note Cards - $16.00

Season's End
|
I stumbled onto this rare image of
a 1950 "Prairie Schooner" travel trailer quite by accident. So I
envisioned an end-of-the-camping-season painting with a 1950 Mercury
Coupe. Mr. Squirrel overhead is keeping a watch on the campers who
had been enjoying a glass of iced tea as they sat and
admired the fall colors - until a chill sent them inside for warm
wraps. Thanks to Dan Piper
for the use of his photograph! |
8 X 10 Print - $16.00
11 X 14 Print - $24.00

"Vintage Caravan"
|
Ever since I visited the SOTF
(Sisters on the Fly) web site and saw the darling photo of the
caravan trailers on the home page, I've wanted to paint something
like that. So here's my take with a '62 Shasta Astrodome and
matching Ford Galaxie, behind a teardrop travel trailer towed by a
woodie station wagon which is following a non-descript trailer and
truck.
Thanks to Lon & Renee for the use of one of their
photos! |
8 X 10 Print - $16.00
11 X 14 Print - $24.00

" Silent Night"
|
This painting was done in pastel
on sanded paper, not my usual casein on illustration board. I was
asked to do a demo for a local art group and chose this 1968
Airstream Caravel as the main subject for my next Christmas
painting. I borrowed from Carolyn B., who is a fellow Sister on the
Fly, and decided Glacier National Park would be the perfect setting. |
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Starlight Trailer Court"
|
Every once in a while I stumble onto
an old photograph of a vintage trailer court. This painting was
inspired by some of those. The "double-decker" Pacemaker is a rare
sight these days, so I had to incorporate this 1959 model. It's
flanked by a '50's Silver Streak and a Spartan Manor.
Many thanks to my
friend and trailer historian Juergen Eichermueller for the picture
CD's |
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"The Road Less Traveled"
|
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference
...Robert Frost
This is a
little-known fiberglass trailer called a "Trail Mite." It looks so
much like a Casita, though, I couldn't resist using it here, pulled
by a classic Chevy from the '50's. I really wanted to showcase a
national park from the NE where the colors of autumn are so
pronounced, but couldn't decide on a certain locale. So this will
just have to represent the region! |
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Camp Coffee"
|
I had the pleasure of meeting Jim and
Donna F. one morning at Cedar Key, FL when we all gathered for the
Winter Rally of the TIN CAN TOURISTS in January. They were having
their first cup of coffee and invited me in! This is their vintage
1960 Yellowstone trailer ... I decided to add a classic
'50-something Pontiac because I've always loved the chrome stripe
down the hood! |
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

Camping by The Dock of
The Bay
Biscayne National Park
|
Many thanks
to Peggy Bennett Richmond for helping me name my painting of a 1950
Ford Coupe and vintage '57 Sportcraft travel trailer at
Biscayne National Park. I thought this spot overlooking the
lighthouse would make a perfect camp-out. I could just imagine how
wonderful it would be to fall asleep to the sound of waves sloshing
against the seawall. |
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

Come Out And Play!
Arches National Park
|
I was inspired to paint this 1955
Holly after attending the TIN CAN TOURIST's Winter Rally at Cedar
Key recently. Because everyone there was camping with their
dog(s) I decided to build this little scene around two of them: a
tiny chihuahua in the trailer window and a black shepherd outside,
who looks like he's trying to get his buddy to come outside and
play. The setting is Arches National Park, but of course I made
up the campsite! (Also, this rear door has no exterior latch, so
don't write and tell me I left something out.)
Many thanks to Tom and Judy K. for letting me use
their trailer. |
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

Scotties at Crater Lake
|
This is a 1968 Serro Scotty
Hilander, with its unusual clerestory windows. My dream vacation
would be a trip to see famous Crater Lake with its incredible
colors, so I decided to create a scene where I imagine the owner of
these 2 scottie dogs has let them loose to investigate their new
campsite while he trekked down the hillside to see more of the park. |
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

Airlight at Yellowstone
|
Many thanks to
Michael K. for the use of his photographs. His vintage trailer is a
rare 1955 rear door Airlight, not an Airstream! It is paired with
a classic 50's Studebaker truck and in this scene, I imagined the owner
as a photographer visiting Yellowstone National Park. He is standing
on the other side of the truck, photographing buffalo with Castle
Geyser in the background. |
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

Fall Camping
Shenandoah National Park
|
When I saw this little trailer, all
dolled up with house shutters, I knew I had to find a way to use it
in my trailer art! Many thanks to Allison S. for permission to put
it in this little scene of some vintage campers who are enjoying the
beautiful fall foliage of the Shenandoah N.P. |
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

Fishing Camp
Rocky Mountain National Park
|
Surprisingly, as many times as we've been to Colorado to camp out,
we have never gone to this park. So I am visiting it vicariously
with a 1960 Yellowstone, one of my favorite canned hams. |
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 x 14 Print $24.00

"Desert Camping"
Saguaro National Park
|
When my brother Tyler sent me
photos of a vintage Airfloat Land Yacht he'd spotted on vacation I
knew right away I would have to work it into a painting! So I chose
the Saguaro National Park as a proper setting and coupled the
trailer with a pink and white '56 Ford Fairlane. I figure the couple
has stepped into the trailer to find their park pass before checking
in to camp!
(Thank you, Bro!) |
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

TRAVEL TRAILER ART SERIES

"The Deer Lease"
| I don't
know WHY it took me so long to wake up to the fact that many vintage
travel trailers are still found on deer leases around the country. I
"borrowed" this '56 TravelEze from a fellow "Sister on the Fly" to
illustrate. That's a 1950 GMC pick-up truck parked behind it,
and I figure this must be the day after deer season ends -
when the deer show up!
(Many thanks to Joni Watkins for the use of
her photo.)
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00
|

"Go Fly A Kite!"
|
Bluebonnets are out in some parts of
South Texas in March ... the perfect month to go fly your new kite.
Still, it's anybody's guess why this person would park his 1951
Pontiac woodie station wagon in a bed of wildflowers. At least his
'56 ALJO travel trailer found a better resting place. |
8 X 10 Print $16.00 11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Bubba's
Fireworks"
Not much has changed
over the years when it comes to fireworks stands ... It seems they
have always been simple, home-built affairs. This scene shows a
couple who have stopped by a roadside stand to get some sparklers,
leaving their 1950 Plymouth convertible idling nearby, coupled with
a vintage 1960 Lincraft travel trailer.
(Many thanks to Jeff and
Angela Bennett for letting me make use of their cute painted
trailer)
8 X 10 Print
$16.00
11 X 14 Print
$24.00

"Just
Married"
I painted this for
the month of June ... In this scene, I picture the honeymooners
stopping by the wayside to check out the beautiful mountain
waterfall. The car is a 1959 Chevy El Camino and the vintage trailer
is probably a Yellowstone.
8 X 10 Print $16.008
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Orchard Hills"
A fifty-something
Chevrolet Apache pickup truck, with a home-built camper shell, is
waiting to be loaded with bushels of apples to be taken to the
farmer's market in town. I used my grandparents' farm as the
backdrop and inspiration for this painting. Orchard Hills began as
an apple orchard back in the early 1900's in Barboursville, WV. My
grandfather, William S. Estler, gradually converted it to a tomato
farm and truck garden. His famous "Mortgage Lifters" brought folks
for 3 states around to buy tomato seedlings for planting.
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"January Thaw"
I have long wanted
to do a painting with a vintage Spartan Manor. This one is a 1951
model, set up as a residence and is paired with a classic '57 Dodge
pickup truck. Together they appear to be worn out from winter and
looking forward to the thaw and an early spring.
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Vintage Check
In"
This fabulous duo
belongs to Vickie Ashcraft, owner of the
Enchanted Trails RV Park
in Albuquerque, NM. She had her vintage trailer - a 1954 Va-ka-shunette -
paired with a classic 1950 Hudson. Vickie
also hosts vintage trailer rallies there every year. (
Retro Restoration was commissioned
to bring both back to their original glory.)
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Weekend at the
Lake"
The setting is Inks Lake State
Park in Central Texas. Grab a canoe and go camping in this little
'53 Terry Playmate and you have the perfect way to enjoy a summer
weekend.
Another success
story for
Retro Restoration
...
Many thanks to Deborah S.
for letting me "borrow" her trailer.
8 X 10 Print $16.00

"The Guest
House"
Many thanks to
John E. for the use of his photos in creating this serene scene of a
backyard guest house. However, according to John, the neighbors
complained about his "unsightly trailer," a vintage
'64 FAN Coach, and he ended up moving it
to the driveway. I think it's a shame because it really dressed up
his back yard.
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Gettin'
Ready"
Jerald was kind
enough to give me permission to use his picture in this painting
featuring his '53 Chevy and '68 Airstream Land Yacht. Here he is,
checking everything out before going on another camping trip while
his faithful companion Nugget, a loveable golden retriever, looks on
patiently.
(Special thanks to Rick Vanderpool for sharing his great
photos!)
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"HOKEY POKEY"
A 1985 Vanagon Westfalia Camper by Volkswagon
They stopped making these in 1991
and, while not entirely vintage, are highly sought after with an extremely loyal
following. The scene here is from a state park
in Maryland called Big Run , which is a campground in the New Germany State
Forest.
Thanks to Dean Williams for great photos ...
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Plein Air Pair"
Yosemite National
Park
As an artist myself, I can
really identify with this scene ... I LOVE the English-made Morris
Minor, so decided to pair a vintage 1960 woodie station wagon with a homemade
woodie teardrop trailer. Here the artist is working outdoors - or "plein
air" - to capture Yosemite's Half Dome on canvas. (I am too lazy to paint outside
myself, but really love the look of paintings that have been created on site.)
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Sister's Vintage Hogans"
Since I recently joined the "Sisters on the Fly,"
I have had a yearning to paint some of their darling personalized vintage
trailers. I got permission from Maurrie Sussman, Sister #1, who provided me with
lots of good photographs. Here is the scene she wanted to see painted: Monument
Valley in the background and her trailer (left) and her sister's (Sister #2) in
the center ... For more information about the group, go to their web site:
www.sistersonthefly.com

8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Safe Haven"
This was a commission
... Mary B. wanted a large rendering of her 1965 Globe Trotter. The scene is hers but I added a
deer to give it that tranquil feeling. (Found out later that she has deer that
come up to her house all the time!)
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Sugar Shack"
The first time I saw this
little teardrop I knew I would have to put it in a painting one day! Here I
coupled it with a 1957 Chevy Bel Aire Nomad, painted to match. And so it sits
camped at Beaver's Bend in OK, with a person in the stream fly-fishing,
reminiscent of the
Sisters on the Fly, the ladies who go camping in their cute painted trailers and love to fly fish.
(BTW, I'm now Sister#820!)
( Many
thanks to my good friends Mike and Sandy for the use of their teardrop!)
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Riverside
Campground"
EVOLUTION OF
CAMPING: A tent camper, a
vintage 1954 Ranger Pop-up Trailer, a 1960 Yellowstone "canned ham," and an
early 1986 Fleetwood Bounder Motor Home share common RV spaces at a primitive
campground devoted to enthusiastic fishermen who aren't put off by a little
rain.
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"TIN CAN TOURIST CAMP"
This painting was painted for
and presented to Forrest and Jeri Bone who have worked tirelessly for the past
several years as representatives of the oldest vintage travel trailer
organization in the country:
THE TIN CAN TOURISTS. It features a number of
elements that have special meaning to them: their old, but restored Spartanette
in the background, along with 2 friends' treasured Westcrafts, a Curtiss Aerocar and esp. their
own newly-acquired and restored American trailer in foreground (to the right.)
Thanks to Terry Bone for
great photos!
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Favorite Campsite"
A 1954 Ford Country Squire and a vintage '58 Stanley
travel trailer sit nestled in a gorgeous setting of snow-capped mountains and
tall pines at Fallen Leaf S.P. (just south of Lake Tahoe)
(Many thanks to Ric and Julie Pfarrer for great
photos!)
NOTE: 30%
of the purchase price FOR THIS PRINT will be donated
to THE COLORADO PARKINSONS FOUNDATION.
8 X 10 Print $20.00
11 X 14 Print $26.00

"Ric's Route 66"
It's 1954 ... A Holiday Rambler and Chevy
station wagon make a pit stop at Ric's service station - where they find gas for
29 cents a gallon - before heading on down Route 66.
(Many thanks to Ric Pfarrer for help in researching
this rare pair.)
NOTE: 30%
of the purchase price FOR THIS PRINT will be donated
to THE COLORADO PARKINSONS FOUNDATION.
8 X 10 Print $20.00
11 X 14 Print $26.00

"The Perfect Pair"
A '56 Chevy BelAir goes
camping with a vintage 1970 Scotty Sportsman travel trailer. Here it looks like
they've stopped off at campsite #12 to check out the water for fishing ...
(Thanks to Doug Warren for the use of his photos!)

8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Made for Each Other"
A vintage 1976 Trillium rests
besides the road, being towed by a 50's era Jeep. A mountain bike is our clue
that the owner plans to find a good spot nearby to camp and do a little biking!
The scene is somewhere in Colorado, an outdoor man's paradise.
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print
$24.00

"Heading Home"
A 50's vintage Silver
Streak, is winding its way back home. The scene is a lovely country lane here in
East Texas called Houston County Road. This painting started out as a demo for
an art league ... The original is a pastel on sanded paper - 18" x 26."
One of my larger pieces.
8 X 10 Print
$16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Vintage Retreat"
This
little scene features a pair of '57's: a tiny Comet Trailer and Chevy BelAir.
Interestingly, I discovered, when I met the owners at a rally in Cedar Key,
Florida that the Chevy was actually purchased right here in my own town - Wills
Point, Texas!
8X10 Print
$16.00
11X14 Print
$24.00

"The Weekenders"
I have used this design as my
personal logo for about a year now ... I am also starting a line of wearable art
featuring this piece.
8 X 10 Print
$16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"The Camp-Out"
This was a commission for Mr. and Mrs.
Terry Bone. I like it because it epitomizes the "Old Time" feel I try to convey
with my vintage travel trailer artwork.
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Vintage Vacation"
This longer version of a vintage Airstream was painted on commission for a lady in England. Marie wanted to
have the design tattooed on her back! (Strangely enough, she is the second
customer of mine to do this ... making me now a Professional Tattoo Artist!) The
bicycle is also a vintage Schwinn from the early 1950's.
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Heaven on
Earth"
A tiny Airstream in
an RV park dedicated to Airstreams, would be considered by some to be the
ultimate lifestyle achievement ... "Come on down! The door is open and the
Welcome mat is out! " I painted this to please most Airstream owners.
Did I succeed?
8 X 10 Print
$16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Vintage Picnic"
I am sure teardrop owners must
be very proud of the fact they can tote their little babies just about anywhere
... I expect most of them can even identify with this: A back roads wilderness
with signs warning of the perils of proceeding! "No motorhomes and no long
trailers." But the perfect place to stop for a rest and a slice of
watermelon before going on. I coupled this with a classic Desoto because I
couldn't resist the urge to paint those big tailfins!
8 X 10 Print
$16.00
11 X 14 Print
$24.00

"The Yellow Rose of Texas"
I actually found
this vintage trailer, all forlorn, sitting behind a man's house in a
nearby town ... I'm not really sure what the model is. It could be a Spartanette
or Sportsman,
but I suspect it is something less well known. Nevertheless, I decided to use
it as a backdrop to display the
Lone Star flag because I've actually seen a little trailer decked out this way
and thought it looked very redneck! The old truck is a Studebaker, which I
understand was once a very popular vehicle. It seemed very natural here.
8 X 10 Print
$16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Trailer For Sale or Rent"
A fun play on the words of Roger
Miller's famous song of the 1960's
"King of the Road", this little painting was put together to
advertise a darling motel and RV park in Cedar Key, Florida. The owner
confessed that they had sold the little winged Shasta but have replaced it with
a Serro Scotty which will be painted in a similar color scheme, to match the
motel decor.
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"SCOTTIES"
A print customer suggested this
little tribute to the Serro Scotty ... She told me she owned some Scottish
Terriers as well as a restored vintage trailer, so I couldn't resist putting
them all together!
8 X 10 Print
$16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Vintage Flea Market"
I was inspired to paint this
little scene because we live very near Canton, Texas, which is the home of
"First Monday Trade Days," - or the World's Largest Flea
Market. It is also a great place to find vintage travel trailers of all kinds.
Many serve as temporary offices for the dealers and others come to town to
provide adequate sleeping quarters for the bargain hunters. Most of the
"stuff" pictured here is actually sitting in a man's front yard in
Quinlan, TX!
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"The Honeymooners"
My own trip to see Niagara
Falls was very memorable as they do thunder and the sheer width of them
is pretty spectacular. So what could be cuter than a tiny, classic VW, pulling an even tinier
homemade teardrop trailer for a couple on their honeymoon?
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Scenic Overlook"
Just about every RV-er has seen "The
Long, Long Trailer," with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. I try to watch it at
least once a year - esp. when we are out camping. So you can see where I
got my inspiration for this hair-raising scene. And who hasn't got a story to
tell about a unique predicament while trying to maneuver a long,
long travel trailer or motor home? I tried not to copy the same 1953 New Moon house
trailer from the movie, so this one is a combination of a couple of styles that
were popular in the early 1950's. The car is similar to Desi's Mercury Monterey
convertible, only a year older...
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Hambone"
A 1955 '98 Oldsmobile, pulling a
Shasta-like vintage travel trailer, is symbolic of the comeback both these
classic beauties have made in recent years. I checked on the market value of a
fully restored Olds and was shocked to see it fell in the $35,000 price range! I
chose this particular car to bring back a fond memory from childhood. My father,
Graham Estler, was a top salesman for RCA in the 50's and drove a car just like
this. He traded for a new one every year, but seemed partial to the red and
white Olds. Altho' he never pulled a travel trailer with it, I thought it made a
wonderful pair with this little vintage job. The name "Hambone" comes
from my dad's knick-name growing up ...

"Days Gone By ... when we seemed
to move at a slower pace"
This is the painting that inspired a
series ... A classic woodie station wagon, pulling a 1956 vintage Shasta travel
trailer. The original is a 9x12 oil on stretched canvas which I created as wall
art for our new fifth wheel. On impulse I offered prints for sale on Ebay. And,
surprise! they sold!

"1953 Lake Cabin"
Because I love the tiny,
canned ham vintage trailers, I chose this, a 1953 Va-ka-shun-ette as the
centerpiece for this casein on watercolor paper rendition. The scene is Lake O'
the Pines, in East Texas, a place we love to visit when we are camping.

11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Boondocking"
The name comes from a term RV-ers are
familiar with which refers to camping without the usual amenities (i.e.
electricity, water, sewer, etc.) I found this little 1956 Westerner in Marshall,
TX, stranded in a cow pasture and greyed with mildew ... At the time I thought
it was a Shasta, but the joke's on me! A second trip and a closer inspection of the
original proved it was indeed a little Westerner. So here it sits, restored,
beside a 1952 Chevy P.U.

11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Salvaged Shasta"
I thought this scene would evoke some
emotions from folks who have rescued these vintage travel trailers - or would
have, if they'd had the chance! I photographed the old truck and car in Aztec,
NM, while vacationing one year.
8 X 10 Print $16.00
11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Flower Child"
No, I was never considered a Hippie
myself... But this little Airstream Cruisette was inspired by that era. I
just decided to give it a new twist: This couple appears to be decidedly
middle-class and maybe even a little patriotic! They still cling to the old
things and couldn't imagine pulling their vintage travel trailer with anything
but an old VW bus!

11 X 14 Print $24.00

"Playthings"
Well, here's a story ... One of my
eBay print customers sent me some photographs of her winged Shasta and Cushman
Scooters, telling me that the vintage trailer was a gift from her fiancé. I
designed this painting around this couple's story, carving their initials on the
trunk of the big oak tree in the background. Because she's Swedish, I decided to
celebrate her heritage with the red and yellow colors on the trailer. I just tossed in the Chevy for effect.

"Scotty Rally"
As this series grew in number, so did the
requests for specific vintage travel trailers to be featured in my paintings. I
was deluged with photographs and e-mails from a group of Serro Scotty
enthusiasts, so I decided to paint a rally in order to feature as many of these
models as I could. I found out later that there is actually a place called
"Scottyland" in PA that hosts annual rallies for these groups. The 1958 Buick came as a surprise e-mail attachment from
another one of my customers.

"Vintage
Christmas"
Well, what else can you paint when it's
December and Christmas is right around the corner? Actually, this was also
inspired by another customer's request. So I jumped right on it and got it out in
time.

"Snow Angel"
Little did I know when I asked for, and
received, permission to paint Kimberly's little vintage winged Shasta that it
came with an interesting history.... She took this baby with her to Denmark when
she lived there for 4 years! Talk about love. I liked the big red brick building
in the background, too, so left it to the viewer to figure out why there are a
set of footprints in the snow between the house and the trailer.

"The Christmas Tree Lot"
Every town has had one: A Christmas Tree
Lot run by the Boy Scouts as a fund raiser for one of the troops. I wanted to
paint another little vintage Airstream, so I set this one up as the office and
put a perky little snowman out front all dressed up as a Scout of some kind.
Actually, my grandson Nathan is a Scout in Austin, TX and I made him
some Christmas cards with this design!
